Listening to the grass growing

The string quartets by Alberto Posadas – a visualized radio play

The String Quartets of Alberto Posadas
A radio broadcast by Uli Aumüller (in German only)
When composing his string quartets, the Spanish composer Alberto Posadas (*1967) likes to use mathematical models that we know from biology, among other things - so-called bifurcations, Mandelbrot sets or even Brownian motion. These models help to describe the growth of plants, but also other physical phenomena. In an almost scientific way, Alberto Posadas tries with his music to "eavesdrop on the grass growing" or to imitate the creativity of nature. But in his works one does not hear birdsong, thunderstorms or sunrises; Posadas is much more concerned with a musical translation of the inner principles that nature also unfolds. How he goes about this in detail and what the musicians of the Diotima Quartet, who have premiered his string quartets, need to know and consider in the process is observed by Uli Aumüller in the program "Horizons."
