Are we listening with different ears?

A voyage of discovery into Franco-German music

In 2014 and 2015, the Franco-German Fund for Contemporary Music "Impuls Neue Musik" organized a prominent 8-part discussion series in cooperation with the Institut Français in Berlin, in which the moderator Uli Aumüller and his discussion partners attempted to trace the similarities and differences between the German and French musical landscapes. What is the significance and importance of classical and contemporary music on both sides of the Rhine, is music heard differently here and there, does music serve different needs and expectations? What repertoire is performed, what educational and promotional institutions exist? And which innovations and traditions of the neighbors have been adopted at home, which have been ignored?
In his two-part radio program, Uli Aumüller provides an overview of the results of the approximately 20 hours of discussions.
